  1. @roccoh21 I saw it in the original run at the Martin Beck – Jane Krakowski was great as Flaemschen. Michael Jeter had moved on, and Chip Zien was in the Kringelein role. True, GRAND HOTEL was lots of style – but you could say the same thing of banal CITY OF ANGELS the same year. Or the god-awful borefest that was THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES around the same time – I actually dozed off in the second act of that one.

I think-Mr Tune is now an artist, with his own gallery in NYC.

  4. I doubt anyone posting here actually saw this god awful show. I saw it three times to revel in it’s utter horror. This was one of the show’s two good numbers. GRAND HOTEL was all style, GREAT performances and no substance. But this number was a real showstopper.

  10. Thank you for sharing. This clip always cheers me up.

  11. Unfortunately, we never got the chance to see Michael and David Carroll (the original Barron) perform this at the Tony Awards. Fortunately, Brent took up the reins with Michael.

  12. Maybe the greatest moment in Tony Awards history. Seamless motion. Astonishing.

  13. so beautiful!

  14. there are so few moments in theatre history that are as transcendent as this.

  20. I never get tired of watching this performance. Simply magical.

  21. Michael Jeter…small man with an enormous talent. This was such a wonderful example of what he could do. On film, on TV, even on Sesame Street, he brought something brilliant to every performance. I raise my glass to him!!!

  22. I love Michael Jeter! He makes me laugh even when he makes me cry… If that makes sense.

  23. I saw him twice and he brought the house down like nothing you’ve ever seen! He was a sweet, sweet guy, too. As nice as you would imagine him being.

  24. Michael sooo deserved the Tony!! My college did this play a couple of years ago and I fell in love with it! It was wonderful and I wish I could have seen Michael in this role. You are right byebons, he died too young.

  25. What a great Tony-winning performance! Michael Jeter was a great talent & died too young. It’s great to see this number again.
