How much can I expect to pay for medical and travel insurance?

my grandmother will go to australia, and she’ll be staying there permanently.
she’s 79 years old.
the lady from the visa application center requires her to have medical and travel insurance.

  1. She should already have SOME medical insurance, but she’ll need to talk to a local agent for something valid in Australia. The travel insurance is cheap, but it doesn’t cover much.

    Her age could be a big factor – she might have to just throw money at the situation – post a big fat bond to get her Visa.

  3. if she is going to live in australia permanently and legally, she will be cover by our medicare free to every australian resident. she can also buy private insurance on top, it won’t cost much, contact medibank in australia, don’t use any overseas agents. It would cost less than $1000 a year for her regardless of her age. it would be far cheaper than places like the U.S.

    but she needs to be a PR to get the medicare card, you need that card for private health insurance, u get government rebates.
